日本媒體報導，為了保衛釣魚台，日本政府將成立奪島部隊，並將斥資採購多功能救難艦及水陸兩棲戰車。
根據日本共同社報導，日本防衛省2014年度預算案概算要求的內容曝光。在陸上自衛隊方面，預定2015年度成立奪島專門部隊，2014年度在陸上自衛隊成立籌備組織，並將編列調查費1億日圓。
為了因應新成立奪島部隊，計畫將添購2輛具有先進通訊設備等指揮功能的水陸兩棲戰車，預算金額13億日圓。防衛省已經在今(2013)年的預算中添購4輛AAV-7兩棲戰車。
在海上自衛隊方面，新年度預算中，防衛省要求編列508億日圓(約147億元)建造一艘戰時及災害發生時都能使用的多功能救難艦。這艘救難艦被要求可用於像2011年311東日本大震災時的大規模海嘯災害搜救工作，並具有海上醫院功能。
防衛省計畫利用民間包船等方式，進行輔助自衛隊運輸能力的演習，這項計畫編列11億日圓。 (接下一頁)
