美國連鎖零售商沃爾瑪 (Wal-Mart)(WMT-US) 周四 (29日) 對投資人表示，該公司將以低利貸款方式或其他支付方式，提供最高 5000 萬美元給孟加拉成衣業者改善廠房環境。《路透社》報導，這筆金額是北美企業如沃爾瑪、Gap 於 7 月同意提供給孟加拉業者的 1 億資金中的一部分，但外幣貸款需要孟加拉央行的核准。貸款利率目前尚未決定。

去(2012)年 11 月，孟加拉工廠大火造成 112 人喪生，今年 4 月又發生的成衣工廠倒塌更使 1129 名工人死於該起意外。此後，外界便戮力推動孟加拉工廠安全的改善。今年 7 月，北美企業組成孟加拉勞工安全聯盟 ( Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety) ，但他們提出的改善方案曾遭到批評，因有團體認為，歐洲企業組成的同質性聯盟，所提出的方案較為有力。

沃爾瑪全球監察長 Jay Jorgensen 周四表示，該公司正與孟加拉央行聯繫，尋找對該國工廠提供資金的最佳方式，考慮的方法有貸款及提前支付貨款等。

過去數個月以來，沃爾瑪在孟加拉工廠議題上有比較大動作表示，5 月時，該公司公布一份被禁止的工廠名單。有些投資人認為沃爾瑪應該公開更多資訊。不過也有一些投資人讚許沃爾瑪透明化的做法。

將沃爾瑪評盤「買進」的花旗資產經理人 Deborah Weinswig 則表示，其實現在各界都還沒有完全確定，怎樣的做法才是對孟加拉工人最好的。

北美企業聯盟於 7 月表示，將提供 1 億美元以上貸款資金，讓孟加拉工廠進行必要的安全整修。服飾品牌 Gap 於 10 月分表示，該公司可提供最高 2000 萬美元貸款。

去年 11 月發生火災的孟加拉工廠，當時正在未告知沃爾瑪的情形下生產該公司旗下的 Faded Glory 服飾。自此意外後，沃爾瑪對未授權的外包就改採零容忍態度。該公司也對孟加拉約 280 家代工廠展開詳查，當工程師發現有需要改善的問題時，工廠必須在規定的時間內改善完畢。
