全球最大白金礦商英美礦業白金公司（Amplats）30日宣布，將在南非礦場裁員3,300人，以期提振獲利能力。

儘管在當地政府與工會反對下，英美礦業白金宣布裁減的人數不到最初計畫的25%，但該公司表示，另有1,600名員工將從原工作地點調往別處，還有1,500人已申請自願遣散方案，500人準備尋求「其他機會」。

迄去年底止，英美礦業白金共有5萬873名員工，及4,245名約聘人員。

南非是全球已知白金蘊藏量最大的國家，但在去年的罷工抗爭事件後，當地礦工薪資調升幅度已超越通膨，同時白金價格卻持續下滑，迫使礦商紛紛設法削減成本。

英美礦業白金已關閉當地三座礦井，並宣布每年減產35萬英兩白金。因成本攀升與勞工抗爭使產量縮減，今年上半年該公司負債增加26%至132億蘭德（13億美元）。

歐洲聯盟失業率連續數月維持穩定，歐盟執行委員安道爾認為，目前的就業政策方向正確，但還需要加把勁創造更多工作機會。

歐洲聯盟統計局（Eurostat）今天公布最新調查，今年7月歐元區失業率為12.1%，歐盟整體 則為11%，兩項數據與6月、5月相較都算穩定。

主管就業、社會事務及融合的歐盟執行委員安道爾（Laszlo Andor）隨後發布聲明說，近期許多成員國成功地降低些許失業率，令人很受鼓舞，這顯示積極的就業政策措施還是很重要，例如聘僱補貼、為低薪資勞工減稅、二度就業技能訓練、高品質的媒合工作服務等。

但他也指出，歐盟還有超過2660萬人找不到工作，令人無法接受，其中甚至有550萬人在25歲以下，顯得近來的改善程度不夠，情勢仍然嚴峻。

他表示，目前的就業政策是走在正確的道路上，但還要加把勁，提供更多就業機會。

歐盟各國於6月底達成共識，以提前動支及預算彈性的方式，籌措促進就業所需的資金，尤其在協助青年就業問題上，估計將投入80億歐元，明年起陸續有各項方案上路。

蘋果30日宣布，美國零售店啟動iPhone舊換新方案。

公司發言人表示，除了協助支持環保，拿舊機來回收的客戶，之後還能折價購買新機。

華爾街日報引述知情人士說法報導，舊機最多能折抵280美元左右。

另外，綜合媒體報導，美國電信巨擘AT&T和T-Mobile不約而同下令員工在9月20至22日停止放假或縮短休息時間。以往每年推出新iPhone時，都會出現這種狀況。市場目前普遍預期蘋果會在9月10日發表新iPhone，因此20日可能就是對美國和許多國家開放銷售的時間。
