旅行前夕，你會打開「 Google 街景」，調查一番當地的實景嗎？上山下海，深入世界上多處旅遊勝地，與造訪你我家鄉大街小巷的 3D 真實街景當然是驚人的，不過走在 Google 街景路上好像哪裡怪怪的，是了，因為這人山人海的街道看起來格外安靜，因為 Google 街景雖然捕捉了四周的一切，卻無法捕捉到聲音。
那麼，如果把該地真實的環境聲音加入 Google 街景呢？甚至使用 3D 立體音效的方式，讓你走在 Google 街景時，跟著你的腳步改變環境音響，轉過頭你可以聽到背後的狗叫聲漸漸遠去，而眼前的教堂鐘聲漸漸清晰。
這就是「Sounds of Street View」這個計畫想要做的事情，舉例來說，當你進入夏威夷海灘的 Google 街景，往沙灘上的人群走去，你會聽到漸漸鼎沸的人聲，覺得太吵？那麼你可以轉頭往海灘走去，享受在耳畔逐漸響起的風聲與海浪拍打沙灘的窸窣音響。
當然，你可能覺得 3D 環境音效不是現在的 3D 遊戲都做得到的事情嗎？
但是把這樣的 3D 環繞音效做進 Google 街景，並且讓聲音動態的隨著你在真實世界的走動而改變，那就是一件有趣的事情了。
