誰在決定 Google 地圖上要顯示的內容？答案顯然是 Google 自己。在 2009 年的時候我參加過一個地方政府會議，發現與會者很關心這個問題，因為 Google 決定了哪些商業資訊會被顯示在地圖上。自從政府保持中立，地圖業務外包後，控制權就交給了第三方，他們有理由去關心這些問題。
Google 未來將地理資訊搜尋結果商業化，甚至推出付費結果，或優先為訂閱使用者服務，似乎是不可避免的。如果他們沒有這麼做的話，就不會有我在家附近搜尋「早餐」時第一個結果跳出來的就是「Subway餐廳」，哪裡會有如此巧合的事情。
當然 Google 不是唯一的地圖提供方，這只是一個例子。關鍵是，不管提供方地圖是誰，你都交給了他們控制權，讓他們決定哪些是優先呈現的資訊，哪些根本不會顯示。 第二個關心點是地理位置。誰在定義你的周邊環境，或你是否應當去那裡。這個問題是由 ACLU（美國自有公民聯盟）提出的。作為地圖提供方演算法的一部分，他們提供你駕車、騎車、步行路徑方案，讓你使用他們確定的安全的、或危險的鄰居環境資訊。這裡的問題在於誰在用什麼確定這個周邊環境安全或不安全，或安全僅僅是為了一些邪惡目的而存在的程式碼文字。
目前 Flickr 借助用戶透過 API 上傳的照片來收集周邊資訊。他們用這些資訊為你的照片貼標籤，但也存在一種可能，就是他們會以一種更精妙的方式為了影響從交通方式到地產價格等任何事情而使用這些周邊資訊，因為當地圖提供方足夠強大的時候，他們就變成了「真相」的來源。
最後，這些地圖提供方在你可能不同意的情況下，存在收集你地理資訊的動機。當你在用 Google 及 Apple 他們服務的時候，他們就在收集你的地理資訊。他們能夠用這些資訊去改善他們地圖的精準性，而 Google 很早就宣佈他們會用這些資訊去跟蹤你去的地方與搜尋結果之間的關聯性。全球有 5 億部Android手機，這是一個巨大的基於個人層面涉及到人們散步、去工作、去看醫生、可能參加一個抗議活動等這些具體層面的資訊收集。不管他們宣稱他們是怎樣的博大，我們肯定不能忽略如此巨大的資料掌控在一單獨實體手中的社會意義。有些公司像 Foursquare 是使用遊戲化的方式去掩蓋實際上大規模的地理資訊收集工作，甚至 Google 也用《Ingress》這款虛擬實境地理遊戲來收集資訊。
現在我們識別出了問題，那麼我們可以看看 OpenStreetMap 如何解決？在地圖內容方面，OpenStreetMap 即是中立的又是透明的。OpenStreetMap 是一個類似維基的世界上任何人都能編輯的地圖。如果一個商店在地圖上消失了，它也還可以由店主或其它用戶加回去。在展示方面，創造地圖的每個人或公司都可以自由的將它渲染成他們期望的樣子。OpenStreetMap.org 主地圖本身是使用 FLOSS（Free/Libre Open Source Software）來創建軟體的，並且它擁有充分授權的任何人可以創建的樣式表。而且，用心的人可以基於同樣的資料創建屬於自己的地圖。
OpenStreetMap (開放街圖，簡稱OSM) 是自由而且開源的全球地圖，於2004年由英國的 Steve Coast 發起，採用類似 Wiki 的協作編輯以及開放的授權與格式。 OSM 的地圖由像你一樣的使用者繪製。因為來自一般的使用者，所以內容相當多元。資料的來源可能根據手持GPS裝置、航照圖以及其他自由內容，甚至是單靠使用者由於對本地的認識而得。雖然不全是經過專業訓練的人士，但可以產生接近專業地理資訊水準的地圖。 地圖以開放資料庫授權 (ODbL)方式授權，可以日常生活、導航、學術、甚至商業應用。(文字說明來自OpenStreetMap 台灣)

I have just read the translation about what is "Store credit", And the website is "http://www.ehow.com/info_8155324_store-credit.html", But I still not understand,so "store credit" just only in foreign useful? Well,the "store credit" likes "credit card" the same?
