嘉會難再遇，三載為千秋。臨河濯長纓，念子悵悠悠。
遠望悲風至，對酒不能酬。行人懷往路，何以慰我愁。
獨有飲觴酒，與子結綢繆。

譯文：
好的機會不會再有，三年的友情如同千秋。在河邊為你洗濯馬頸上的皮革纓帶，心裡頭想著離別的惆悵像河水綿綿悠長。遠遠的望著悲涼的風即將到來，對著送別的酒席我不能夠暢飲開懷。惦念著出行人將要踏上遠路，不知道怎樣才能安慰內心的憂愁。只有同飲杯中酒，祝我們的友情纏綿永結天長地久。

解析：
在精心為遠行者餞別的酒宴上，主人公倍感傷痛。從主人公為友人洗馬頸上的革帶這一行前細微的準備，可以看出他們的情意是多麼的深厚，當他望著悠悠的流水，不禁想到朋友即將遠去，而他對朋友的思念也會像流水一樣化作無盡的憂愁。他所以這樣的不捨，所以這樣的傷感，是因為他們三年的情意等於別人一千年的感情。“三歲為千年。”是一個誇張的說法，但此處誇而不虛，因為只有這樣的語言才能表達出他們的深情厚意。正因為如此所以主人公“遙望悲風至，對酒不能酬。”悲風是襯托淒涼的分別環境與心情的，因為悲切過度，所以在特意設置的酒宴上，卻不知道如何招待客人了，這裡以主人公頭腦一片空白的失態，動態的展現了主人公悲哀的深度，具有很強的藝術感染力。“行人懷遠路，何以慰我愁。”行人急著要出發，用什麼來安慰我的憂愁呢？“獨有盈觴酒，與子結綢繆。”只要舉杯勸酒同飲，以表達我們永不相忘的深情厚意，這里大有王維“勸君更盡一杯酒，西出陽關無故人”之意。
