國立清華大學17日宣布設立亞洲政策中心，首任中心主任，正是美國在台協會台北辦事處前處長司徒文，他也成位首位在我國大學任教的美國大使級退休外交官。
為了歡迎司徒文的到來，校長陳力俊還親自送上聘書。據了解，司徒文去年退休後不少學校都有意聘請他擔任教職，不過最後在總統馬英九的建議下，加上陳力俊的大力邀約，才決定落腳清大。
陳力俊表示，為了因應亞洲崛起，才設立了亞洲政策中心及葉公超講座，學校對此還特別募款2000萬台幣，由於經費還有一定的彈性空間，因此才有機會聘得這位重量級退休外交官。
司徒文過去派住亞洲多國，相當熟悉亞洲區域政治，此職務對他來說相當合適，他也強調，清大亞洲政策中心將成為政策分析、研究、對話與溝通的平台，讓清大甚至於台灣，能在亞洲發出更強而有力且突出的聲音，也透過創新思維探討台灣未來。
清大副校長馮達旋則指出，司徒文是文學博士，過去派駐巴基斯坦、黎巴嫩、澳洲、韓國、中國大陸等地，是美國重要外交官，清大希望借重他的專才與人脈，提高台灣與清大的知名度，幫國家拓展更清晰的道路，將自己豐富的外交經驗傳授給學子。
