歐巴馬要求共和黨表決預算案

美國政府「關門」已8天，而距政府舉債額度達到上限倒數202小時之際，總統歐巴馬8日下午2點 (台灣時間9日凌晨2點)召開記者會，要求眾院共和黨「停止找藉口」，將參議院先前通過的臨時預算案拿出來「付諸表決」，以結束「政府關門」。他並針對提高舉債上限案表示，提高上限「並非增新債，而是還舊債」。美國一旦倒債，將使美國經濟嚴重惡化，打擊「全球市場信心，並造成瘋狂、災難性的混亂」。他並要求共和黨「停止強逼迫貝納 (眾院議長)」，極端者的主張不能解決問題。他並強調，在「政府關門」及舉債上限威脅解除後，「我願意談任何事，但不會在威脅之下談」。
